Abstract:

An approach is presented to improve efficiency of star topology Wireless Sensor Networks, using IEEE 802.15.4 standard to achieve wireless communication support. It is based on an algorithm used by a coordinator node with multi-channel capabilities, which creates clusters of nodes that all “hear” each other and assigns a different frequency to each cluster. From simulation results, the multi-channel strategy presents the capability of increasing throughput, solving the hidden node problem, alleviate contention collisions and improving the global network performance.
