SpotMonitor - Monitor and Control Environment

Overview: The need to control and monitor homes and small business environments has been steadily growing in the last decade. For that, several automation technologies (e.g. X10 and Zwave) have been used for controlling electrical appliances in the home. However, they are cumbersome to use and difficult to install and maintain.

Goals: Sensornets provide a good approach for this control and monitoring problems. The idea here is to develop a sensornet capable of monitoring (e.g. temperature, light, humidity) and controlling home appliances based on an API that allows the implementation of control commands and data retrieval tools. This sensornet should be built around a given sensor platform on which a 6LowPan stack is running.
